Caravan Stabilizer

If you have never towed a caravan before then it is natural that you
will be a bit nervous. Your first time will probably be slow and embellished when turning corners or backing
up. Obviously with the more experience you have the better you become. There is a bit of a learning curve but
one that most can master over the course of a single summer. But something that can help you with this
process is a caravan stabilizer.
Instead of me braking down the technical details of what a caravan
stabilizer is, let me explain why it’s needed.

There is something called snaking and it’s something that every
caravan owner experiences. The best way to describe it is when you look in your rear view mirror you see your
caravan going from side to side. You will also feel this action in your vehicle. It can happen when you are
going fast, or even when going slow when certain external forces are at work.
Another instability concern is a caravan roll. This is when the wheels
of the caravan will actually come off the ground. Usually it will happen one at a time. This will happen if
snaking isn’t controlled and it gets out of control. This can also happen if the weight inside the caravan is
off but it definitely can be avoided if you take care in to packing properly.
The last cause of instability I want to mention is pitching. This is
when the caravan actually moves forwards and backwards when going over bumps and can do a lot of damage at
the hitch.
So with all of these 3 causes of concern, there is a product we can
implement to help minimize them. Caravan stabilizers are designed to the job and help reduce these problems.
So they are a great way to help minimize these effects but they are not to be treated as the solution to
careless towing. You will still need to utilize good caravan towing skills in order to take advantage of the
stabilizer effectively.
